Beyond books: How SPPL’s new brand reflects its evolving role.
Client
Saint Paul Public Library (SPPL)
Established in 1882, the Saint Paul Public Library system provides free resources, programs, and classes to all residents of Saint Paul through its thirteen branches and a mobile library service called the Bookmobile.
The Project
Saint Paul Public Library (SPPL) wanted to enhance its communication system and evolve its brand identity to reflect its growth beyond traditional services, showcasing a wide range of offerings such as books, programs, and technology. They also wanted the updated brand to authentically represent the cultural diversity of Saint Paul, align with the City’s broader identity, and provide flexibility through adaptable colors, patterns, and design elements.

The Solution
We prioritized highlighting the library’s services in the new identity while developing a versatile pattern system that reflects the diversity of Saint Paul. Each branch received its own color variation of the primary SPPL logo, creating a unified brand that still allows for individual expression.
